Japanese scientist found dead, may have committed suicide
August 6 , 2014
Prof Yoshiki Sasai, a Japanese stem cell scientist, was found dead in what is likely a case of suicide.
The 52-year-old had earlier been let off after being probed for misconduct for stem cell research that was discredited.
A security guard found him at RIKEN's Centre for Developmental Biology, Kobe.
Sasai had earlier said that he was “deeply ashamed” over some issues of misconduct in published papers, although he was cleared of any direct involvement.
Fellow researchers have expressed shock at the death, saying Sasai was “an excellent scientist”.
