Japanese Prime Minister calls for snap elections

  • In order to seek advantage of higher opinion polls and to garner strong votes, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has called for early elections. Amidst tensions pertaining to North Korea and weak opposition, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced on Monday that he will dissolve the lower house of parliament on Thursday to “seek mandate of the people immediately.” On Monday, Japanese Prime Minister said, “We must not give into the threat of North Korea. I hope to gain the confidence of people in the upcoming elections and push forward strong diplomacy.” The snap elections will be held on October 22. Liberal Democratic Party leader Shinzo Abe further added that an aging society and political tensions with North Korea are country's greatest problems.
