Japan: Town evacuated after Fukushima disaster, reopened
September 6 , 2015
Japanese authorities are allowing residents to return to Naraha, a town which was evacuated in 2011 in the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
The move follows years of decontamination efforts in the radiation-hit area.
However, more than half the residents say they are not ready to return.
A devastating earthquake and tsunami triggered a series of meltdowns of the Fukushima Daiichi plant, after which all residents of Naraha moved out. The town is located some 12 miles south of the nuclear plant.
