Japan Records 99 New COVID-19 Cases Right After Government Lifted State of Emergency

A day after the government lifted the state of emergency, Japan reported 99 new cases of the Coronavirus and 23 fatalities on Thursday. The figure takes the national total to 16,905 cases and 723 deaths. Out of this number, 712 positive cases and 13 deaths were from the Diamond Princess cruise ship that is docked at Yokohama Bay under isolation for two weeks in February. Country's Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe lifted emergency for 39 of the country's 47 prefectures, keeping Urban regions such as Tokyo and Osaka still under lockdown as a measure to fight the surge in cases. The government was to reassess the situation on May 12.
