Japan polls: Shinzo Abe's LDP wins majority
December 15 , 2014
Shinzo Abe’s snap poll gamble paid off, with his Liberal Democratic party winning a comfortable majority in the polls in what is likely to be the lowest turnout in Japan since World War 2.
With the LDP getting a majority of 291 seats, Abe has consolidated his hold on power. Along with its coalition partner Komeito, it now holds over two-third seats in the lower house.
The winning coalition has claimed a total of 326 seats, giving it the means to pass bills that have been rejected by the upper house.
