Japan Flood Likely to Have Claimed 100 Lives

  • As reported by the Japanese government, at least 100 people have been killed by the mudslides, floods, and rains that have struck the west of Japan. Yoshihide Suga, the Chief Cabinet Secretary, has stated in a news conference that as many as 68 people, mainly in the Hiroshima area, were unaccounted for. However, he confirmed that 87 people were dead. The assessment of casualties is being difficult due to a large number of areas being affected by landslides, flooding, and rainfall. Hiroshima has been hit the worst, where houses were smashed, telephone poles fell, and trees got uprooted.
