March 10 , 2015
Simone Gbagbo, the former first lady of Ivory Coast, has been sentenced to a 20-year jail term for her role in the post-election violence that claimed over 3,000 lives in 2010.
The charges against the 65-year old included undermining state security.
Her husband Laurent Gbagbo, the former president, awaits trial by the International Criminal Court.
Simone and Laurent were arrested in 2011 after soldiers took over the bunker, which served as the couple’s hiding place in Abidjan.
