Israel suffers 'gravest pollution event' after oil leak
December 4 , 2014
In one of Israel’s worst environmental disasters, oil leaked from a pipeline has flooded the Evrona nature reserve.
Three people had to be hospitalized after they reportedly inhaled fumes that were released by a breach in the Eilat-Ashkelon pipeline on the border with Jordan, reports said.
The cause of the rupture is being described as accidental and occurred while maintenance work was being carried out.
The environment ministry said this was one of Israel’s “gravest pollution events”.
