Israel: Stone-throwers face 10 years in jail under new bill

  • Protesters throwing stones at moving vehicles in Israel face up to 10 years in jail after a bill by a ministerial legal panel was approved.

The bill has to go through several parliament readings before becoming law.

According to existing law, stone-throwers can be jailed for up to 20 years — but only if it is proven that their intent was to inflict harm.

The new bill puts the onus on “the stone-thrower and not the prosecutor”, according to the new Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked.
