Israel steps up air assault on Gaza, death toll rises
July 11 , 2014
Israeli forces intensified their air attacks in Gaza as the Palestinian death toll crossed 80.
At least 16 people were killed in two strikes — one destroyed two houses and the second hit a café on a beach in Gaza.
The US president Barack Obama spoke with Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, to express his concern over the situation. In a statement the White House later said that the United States was prepared “to facilitate a cessation of hostilities.”
