Israel: Protests by Ethiopian Jews over alleged racial discrimination turn violent
May 4 , 2015
Israeli police used tear gas after protests by Ethiopian Jews turned violent.
The ethnic Ethiopians were protesting against what they called police racism and brutality after a video showing Tel Aviv police beating up an Ethiopian-Israeli soldier surfaced.
Around 20 policemen were injured and more than 25 protesters arrested. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that there is no place for “violence and such disturbances.”
Ethiopian Jews had earlier protested against alleged discrimination against them in Israeli society.
