Israel: Netanyahu forms coalition government at the 11th hour
May 7 , 2015
Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has succeeded in forming a coalition government quite literally at the 11th hour, with only one hour left for the deadline to expire. The agreement with the Jewish Home party, the final stumbling block, was sealed at 10.30 pm local time, reports said. If approved by the Knesset and Cabinet, the government will have the slimmest of majorities with 61 out of 120 seats in parliament.
In a message on Twitter, Netanyahu’s rival Isaac Herzog of the Zionist Union described the newly-formed coalition as a government of “national failure”.
