Israel, Hamas agree on 12-hour pause in fighting
July 26 , 2014
Israel and Hamas have agreed to a 12-hour pause in the fighting in Gaza to allow for a humanitarian window as international efforts continue to press for a longer ceasefire between the two sides.
Israel, however, said it would not stop targeting Hamas tunnels during the period, and would retaliate if attacked by the militant group.
Representatives of several countries including the United States, the UK, Qatar and Turkey are meeting in France in an attempt to negotiate a seven-day truce.
More than 870 Palestinians and 38 Israelis have died in the fighting so far.
