Israel and Hamas extend truce by five days
August 14 , 2014
Hamas and Israel have extended the ceasefire by five days after last-minute uncertainty over the truce because of rocket fire from Gaza and retaliatory Israeli attacks.
The latest truce came into effect after the previous three-day ceasefire ended.
Reports from Cairo, where the Israelis and Palestinians are engaged in indirect talks, indicate that some progress has been made towards reaching an agreement.
The conflict in Gaza has battered the strip’s infrastructure and killed around 2000 people, a majority of them civilians.
