Islamists Accused Of Fraud In Egyptian Referendum
December 24 , 2012
The opposition in Egypt accused the Muslim Brotherhood and its supporters of systematic fraud and irregularities committed during the referendum on the draft constitution. Preliminary results show that the referendum has been approved by voters but fraud charges have brought the Islamist-backed authorities and the opposition to a path of collision. Egypt’s draft constitution went to poll this Saturday in the final phase of voting and initial results suggest 64% voters have approved it. The National Salvation Front (NSF) said it had enlisted over 1,500 violations in the first round of voting on December 15 when ten provinces went to vote and another list of irregularities from Saturday when 17 provinces went to poll. Violations include turning away voters and absence of observing judges.
