Islamic State (ISIS) denies passing order that all girls undergo FGM in Mosul

  • Sunni militant group ISIS has denied reports that it has ordered families in the Iraqi city of Mosul to make their daughters undergo female genital mutilation (FGM), as stated by a United Nations official.

Jacqueline Badcock, a senior UN humanitarian official in Iraq, had said that up to four million girls and women faced the danger of genital mutilation — a practice not prevalent in Iraq, though common in some parts of Africa.

Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, was seized by Isis in June.
