Islamic State (ISIS) denies passing order that all girls undergo FGM in Mosul
July 25 , 2014
Sunni militant group ISIS has denied reports that it has ordered families in the Iraqi city of Mosul to make their daughters undergo female genital mutilation (FGM), as stated by a United Nations official.
Jacqueline Badcock, a senior UN humanitarian official in Iraq, had said that up to four million girls and women faced the danger of genital mutilation — a practice not prevalent in Iraq, though common in some parts of Africa.
Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, was seized by Isis in June.
