IRSN detects Ruthenium-106 Radioactive Pollution over Europe, Nuclear Accident Suspected

  • IRSN, nuclear safety institute of France, has said in a statement that they have detected a cloud of radioactive pollution (a radioactive nuclide called ruthenium-106) over Europe indicating high possibility of a nuclear facility accident in Russia or Kazakhstan. French nuclear regulator ASN’s technical arm has said that they are yet to zero in the actual location of the accident but point out the likely location to be anywhere between the Urals and the Volga river. Jean-Marc Peres, director of IRSN, has told media that they haven’t contacted authorities of Kazakhstan yet but Russian authorities have denied occurrence of any such nuclear accident.
