Iraqi Kurdish forces say IS siege of Mount Sinjar broken

The Kurdish security forces who had launched an offensive against the Islamic State (IS) militants in Iraq's northern Nineveh province, has claimed victory. According to the Kurdish forces, they have been able to break the IS siege of Mount Sinjar and had open a wide corridor to allow displaced Iraqis and Yazidis to leave. There were trapped in the region since August 2014. Moreover, the Pentagon's top officer has confirmed that US air strikes in Iraq have killed top-ranking military leaders of IS. The Kurdish forces had launched a two-pronged attack against IS forces on Wednesday, 17 August.
