Iran needs industrial-scale enrichment to meet long-term energy needs: Khamenei
July 9 , 2014
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said that to meet its energy requirements over the long term, Iran would need to significantly increase its uranium enriching capacity.
While agreeing that there was no immediate need to increase capacity, Iran’s supreme leader stressed that the country had the right to undertake enrichment at an industrial scale for self-sufficiency in nuclear fuel.
Iran, which insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, currently has around 10,000 operational centrifuges at its enrichment plants.
