Iran Continues with the Economic Shakeup by Voting to Remove Finance Minister

  • As Iran’s rial currency falls sharply with deterioration in economic condition, Iranian parliament has decided on Sunday to sack the minister of economic affairs and finance Masoud Karbasian. Iranian parliament voted 137 votes to 121 votes for removal of the minister. With the United States reimposing some sanction in early-August 2018 along with targeting of the Iranian oil industry, the effect is all set to cast its effect on the already beleaguered economy (plagued with high unemployment coupled with fall of rial’s value by almost half). While Iranian foreign minister accused the USA of waging psychological war” on Iran, head of the elite Revolutionary Guards called the challenges faced by Iran as “unique”.
