Iran captures U.S. drone aircraft
December 4 , 2012
The Iranian military said on Tuesday it had captured an unmanned U.S. drone aircraft in its airspace over Persian Gulf waters.
The Revolutionary Guards said they had brought down a ScanEagle, one of the smaller drones used by the United States.
Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi added the drone had carried out several reconnaissance flights over the Gulf in recent days. It is not yet clear how it was captured.
The U.S. said it was looking into the reports.
The ScanEagle drone is a low-cost, long-endurance aircraft made by Insitu, a subsidiary of Boeing.
