Iran calls for humanitarian aid to Yemen after Saudi-led air strikes end
April 22 , 2015
Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Iranian Foreign Minister, has called for urgent “humanitarian assistance” in conflict-hit Yemen after Saudi Arabia announced the ending of its bombing campaign against Shia Houthi rebels.
Describing the Saudi decision as “positive”, Zarif said that Iran was ready to play a constructive role towards forming a “broad-based” government in Yemen.
The Saudi-led coalition accuses Iran of backing the Yemini rebels, a claim that Tehran has rejected.
Saudi officials have said that the air operation had achieved it objectives and now the focus was on finding a political solution.
