Indonesia to Form New Capital

  • As per recent news updates, Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, is witnessing heavy smog everywhere. Meanwhile, officials are planning to build a new capital for this island country, as Jakarta is reportedly plagued by congestion, pollution and environmental problems. On Monday, August 26, 2019, Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia, announced that they have chosen a jungle-clad island for this purpose, which is famous for orangutans, oil fields and pygmy elephants. Interestingly, this area, in East Kalimantan province in Borneo island, is still not named by them. The construction of this 4,50,000 acre site will begin soon and residents are expected to start moving towards it by the year 2024.
