Indonesia: Three more airports shut after volcanic eruptions
July 17 , 2015
Indonesian authorities have shut three more airports because of the volcanic ash spewing from Mount Gamalama and Mount Raung, bringing to five the total number of airports closed amid a rush of people heading home for the Eid festival.
Last week, the airport at popular tourist destination Bali had to be shut because of the eruptions, but it later reopened.
Reports say that thousands of passengers are stranded at the affected airports, including the one at Surabaya, the country’s second largest city.
