Indian floods a man-made disaster: Environmentalists
June 25 , 2013
The northern floods in the Indian state of Uttarakhand have environmentalists saying that the floods are a man-made disaster.
Environmentalists are saying that the unchecked development in the state is enticing doom. With roads being built on an unplanned basis, new hotels being built on river banks and hydro-dams projects in the state's steep valleys are the cause of the floods.
Environmentalists say that the floods and mudslides, which claimed more than 1000 lives, were a natural calamity waiting to happen.
