India could be fourth to get to Mars
November 6 , 2013
An Indian spacecraft is currently headed for a 300-day journey to Mars.
The Mars Orbiter Mission was launched from India's east coast and if the spacecraft survives the mission, it will carry out several experiments including looking for methane in the planet's atmosphere.
European Space Agency NASA as well as the former Soviet Union have succeeded in sending probes to Mars but failure not uncommon.
People would argue as to why India is spending money on a Mars program, considering its high rates of malnutrition but reports suggest that the project costs only $72M and could benefit the country's industries.
