India calls off talks with Pakistan
August 20 , 2014
The Indian government has called off talks with Pakistan after Islamabad’s high commissioner to New Delhi met Shabir Shah, a Kashmiri separatist leader on Monday, August 18.
The decision to call off the foreign secretary-level talks, which were due to be held early next week, was reportedly taken by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reports said.
According to the external affairs ministry of India, Pakistan high commissioner Abdul Basit’s meetings with separatists undermined the “constructive diplomatic engagement” that Modi had initiated.
