Hurricane Irma upgraded to Category 4 Hurricane as Caribbean islands brace for impact

  • Hurricane Irma is all set to wreak havoc after unprecedented flooding by Hurricane Harvey. Hurricane Irma is sustaining winds up to 220km/hr (150mph) and is likely to strengthen in the next 48 hours, says the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Amidst the warnings, residents are stocking up on water, canned products and batteries. Irma is set to reach the Leeward Islands, east of Puerto Rico by late Tuesday or early Wednesday. NHC has issued advisories for the territories that dot the West Indies, including parts of the Leeward Islands, the British and the US Virgin Islands. Life threatening winds, storm surges and torrential rain by Tuesday evening have been forecast by the National Hurricane Center.
