Hundreds drawn to WWII vet's funeral
November 12 , 2013
The funeral home that organized the service of WWII veteran Harold Jellicoe Percival put a note in his obituary, asking for any service personnel to attend. Amazingly, about 400 people showed up.
The 99-year-old UK man didn't leave any close family behind. Family members including his nephew and great-nephew, who attended the funeral thanked the crowd.
"He was a quiet man," he nephew said. "He was an ordinary man who did his duty and served in the war and to see so many people turn up, it's just overwhelming."
Percival never married or had any children. His other nephew, who couldn't make it to the funeral said he led a "nomadic" life.
