House Republicans vote to authorize lawsuit against Obama

  • The US House of Representatives has voted 225-201 to authorize a lawsuit accusing President Barack Obama of having overstepped his authority while carrying out healthcare reforms.

The vote in the Republican-led house was along party lines and will increase political temperatures in the run-up to the November elections.

Republicans claim that the president exceeded his executive authority and violated the US constitution. Democratic representative Sheila Jackson-Lee described the Republican move as a “veiled attempt at impeaching the president.”
