Hong Kong protests swell on China's National Day
October 1 , 2014
Huge crowds gathered in Hong Kong during China’s National Day to rally in favor of pro-democracy protesters, according to media reports.
Usually, the day is marked by a fireworks display, but that was cancelled this year because of the protests. The government has asked the protesters to back down, but so far no side seems to be budging.
The unprecedented protests started after Beijing announced its decision to have a decisive say in candidate selection for the 2017 polls to the crucial Hong Kong chief executive post.
