Hong Kong police clear tunnel in late-night crackdown on protesters
October 15 , 2014
In a late-night crackdown, the Hong Kong police forcibly removed pro-democracy protesters from a tunnel and tore down barricades, according to media reports.
The demonstrators were blocking the underpass in an attempt to expand the protest sites. The police came with reinforcements to empty the tunnel. More than 40 protesters were detained.
The strong police action comes as the Communist Party’s People’s Daily slammed the protests in a prominent editorial, saying that such acts led to greater “disorder and turmoil.”
