May 11 , 2012
A panel of health experts in the United States has for the first time backed a drug to prevent the HIV infection in healthy people.
Experts have recommended that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approve the use of the daily pill, Truvada, for people considered at high risk of contracting the Aids virus.
Truvada is already approved by the FDA for people who are HIV-positive and is taken alongside existing anti-retroviral drugs.
