Heavily Armed Gunmen Siege Luxury Hotel in Kabul, 6 Civilians Dead

  • Afghan special forces ended a 12-hour long siege of a luxury hotel (Intercontinental Hotel) in Kabul (capital of Afghanistan) after some gunmen (unconfirmed reports say 5 gunmen) burst into the 6-floor hotel on Saturday evening at around 21:00 local time when the guests were having dinner. Reports say the Afghan security forces had to conduct an overnight operation to regain control of the luxury hotel and rescue 160 guests. Interior ministry statement said that six civilians along with 3 attackers have died in the incident. However, unconfirmed reports also point out that two foreigners have died in the attack and dozens of bodies are yet to be recovered from the hotel. No group has taken responsibility of the attack.
