November 15 , 2012
The head of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas’ military wing has been killed during Israeli air and naval strikes in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday.
Ahmed Said Khalil al-Jabari along with another Hamas official died after the car they were in was hit in Gaza City.
The incident follows a series of rocket attacks against Israel from the territory.
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the military was prepared to extend its operation against Hamas targets in Gaza.
Gaza's health ministry said a further five Palestinians were killed in the attacks across Gaza.
Several civilians were also injured, including a young child who was badly burned.
Neighboring Egypt has condemned the strikes, recalling its ambassador to Israel while calling for a meeting with the United Nations Security Council and the Arab League.
