Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh 'declares intifada'
October 10 , 2015
Hamas’s Gaza leader Ismail Haniyeh has described the ongoing clashes in the West Bank and Jerusalem as an intifada.
His remarks come as six Palestinians were shot dead at the border fence, after a week of escalating clashes.
Haniyeh’s comments contradict remarks by Fatah’s leaders and Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas.
During a Friday sermon at a mosque, Haniyeh appealed for “the strengthening and increasing of the intifada”, calling it the “only path” towards “liberation”.
