Haiti Hit by Powerful Earthquake, 12 Dead and 188 Injured

  • Northern Haiti is reportedly hit late on Saturday by an earthquake of 5.9 magnitude, killing at least 12 people and injuring around 188. The US Geological Survey has issued statement that the earthquake’s epicenter was 19 km north-west of the Port-de-Paix city. Though the true figures are yet to come, Interior Minister Fednel Monchery has reportedly said that 12 people have died till now. The earthquake has been felt in neighboring countries such as Dominican Republic and Cuba. However, no casualties are reported yet. Haitian President Jovenel Moïse visited Port-de-Paix (a coastal city) and said that he’ll fully mobilize state systems to help the victims.
