Gulf of Mexico: Four workers killed in oil rig explosion
April 2 , 2015
Four workers have been killed and at least 16 injured in an explosion on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, according to Pemex, Mexico’s state-run oil firm.
The fire first started in a pumping and de-watering zone of the oil production platform, though it was not immediately clear what caused it, the company said.
Around 300 oil rig workers had to be evacuated as fire-fighting vessels tried to douse the flames.
More than 60 people have died in fire-related accidents at various facilities of Pemex in the past three years.
