Guatemala: President Pérez dismisses key ministers after corruption allegations
May 22 , 2015
Otto Pérez, the president of Guatemala, has fired several ministers and key officials as the political crisis over a corruption scandal escalates.
The interior, environment and energy ministers and the intelligence chief are among the officials dismissed after a series of arrests and massive demonstrations in capital Guatemala City.
Pérez, a former army general, has not been personally accused of corruption. He said that the dismissals were an opportunity to clamp down on abuses by senior officials.
