Greek far-left ends coalition bid
May 10 , 2012
Greece’s far-left Syriza bloc has abandoned plans to form a coalition.
Leader Alexis Tsipras said he failed to reach an outcome with mainstream parties due to his rejection of austerity measures demanded by the IMF and EU as part of a bailout deal.
The announcement was made following talks with the Pasok and New Democracy (ND) parties.
Pasok leader Evangelos Venizelos is now expected to attempt to form a coalition after ND leader Antonis Samaras failed to do so on Monday.
