Greek centre-right leader's coalition bid fails
May 8 , 2012
Greek centre-right leader Antonis Samaras’ bid to form a coalition government has failed.
His New Democracy party, which backs tough austerity measures, gained the largest share of votes in Sunday’s elections but he deemed a coalition as “impossible’.
Far-left group Syriza, which opposes the measures, are now attempting to form an anti-bailout coalition.
Following the election results, the Athens stock exchange ended the day’s trade down by 6.67 percent.
