Greece Wildfires: Search Operation on for the Missing

  • As per the reports, the wildfires in Greece have claimed at least 74 lives. The search operation is on to find the survivors. Many escaped to sea as high winds spread the fire. Many were also trapped in their vehicles and homes. A total of three days of mourning has been declared by the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. Bodies of 26 adults and children have been found on a cliff top on Tuesday. Head of Greece's Red Cross, Nikos Economopoulos, stated that “They had tried to find an escape route but unfortunately these people and their kids didn't make it in time. Instinctively, seeing the end nearing, they embraced.” On Monday night, the maximum speed of wind was recorded to be 100km/h (60mph).
