Greece PM Alexis Tsipras No-Confidence motion by 153-127 Votes

  • Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras has survived a no-confidence motion, moved by the main opposition party New Democracy, following a deal by the current Greek government with neighboring Macedonian government regarding name dispute. The no-confidence motion was rejected by a margin of 153-127 votes. Both the countries have agreed that Macedonia will now be named Republic of North Macedonia as Greece also has a northern region with the name Macedonia. The name of Macedonia has been a contentious subject between the two countries over 2-decades as Greece claimed that by naming the country Macedonia staking claim to the northern Greek region having the same name.
