Greece heads for early polls in 2015; Syriza's prospect of winning increases

  • Greece is headed for early general elections after the Greek parliament failed to elect a president on 29 December as the MPs rejected the government's presidential nominee. The elections are slated to be held on 25 January, 2015. This new development has increased the prospect of victory for far-left party, Syriza, in the upcoming elections. The party has promised to end Greece's austerity program and rescue the country from debt crisis if it is voted to power. Syriza has also shown hope of renegotiating the terms of the bailout.
