Google to buy part of HTC's smartphone operations for $1 bn

Google has announced that it will acquire HTC's Pixel smartphone division in a deal of $1.1 billion. However, HTC (Taiwanese firm) will continue to run its other smartphone business. Google, the search giant said in a statement, “For Google, this agreement further reinforces its commitment to smartphones and overall investment in its emerging hardware business.” In order to strengthen its hardware capabilities Google resorted to deals and product launches. Earlier in 2012, Google bought Motorola Mobility for for $12.5billion and later sold it off to China's Lenovo Group Ltd. for less than $3 billion.
