Global TB estimate revised up by 500,000
October 24 , 2014
Revising its estimate of the number of tuberculosis patients, the World Health Organization (WHO) says an additional 500,000 have the disease.
Nine million people developed TB in 2013 across the world as compared to 8.6 million in 2013, the UN health agency said.
But the number of deaths from TB continues to decline, it said.
Last year, around 1.5 million people died from TB. This includes some 360,000 people who were HIV positive, the WHO’s Global Tuberculosis Report 2014 says.
