Germany's anti-Islamist Pegida holds its first rally in Austria
February 3 , 2015
Pegida, the anti-Islamisation movement that started in Germany, has now reached Austria, with the group's first rally being held in Vienna. But only a few hundred people participated in the march in Vienna on Monday, unlike the German rallies which have attracted as many as 20,000 people. According to media reports, the small number of protesters found themselves outnumbered by some 5,000 people gathered for a counter-rally. The right-wing Freedom Party of Austria has described Pegida as a “civil rights movement”.
