July 31 , 2015
The German government has launched a treason probe into a news site that had reported on plans to step up state surveillance of online communication. This is the first time in over five decades that journalists are facing treason charges in the country. The controversial articles were published on Netzpolitik.org, an internet blog.
The site’s journalist Andre Meister who, along with the editor-in-chief, is the target of the investigation, said this was an “attack on the freedom of the press”.
