German coalition talks fail as FDP pulls out
November 20 , 2017
The talks of forming a coalition government in Germany have failed after the FDP, which is a free-market liberal party, unexpectedly pulled out of the negotiations. Christian Lindner, leader of the FDP, cited the lack of "basis of trust" with Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative CDU/CSU bloc and the Greens as the reason of the pull out. Merkel will soon meet Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of Germany. Steinmeier has the power to call for snap elections.
