German Chancellor Criticizes Trump's Mexico Wall Idea
June 11 , 2017
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, during her Mexico tour, criticized Donald Trump’s advocacy of building walls around Mexico to solve immigration issues. With Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto by her side, while speaking in Mexico City, Merkel said that it has been historically proven that migration pressures can be resolved and regional stability maintained by keeping good relations with neighboring countries. Both Merkel and Peña Nieto pledged to renegotiate NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) for affirming their commitment to free trade. Meanwhile, political pressure is building up on Merkel within Germany for allowing over one million refugees to settle in the country by opening up borders since 2015.
